Concept
NōME translates as "no me" — a space where the ego is released and everything becomes one, whole, undivided. The NōME Temple is a sacred space where people bring their pain, where vulnerability is not hidden, where pain can be seen, held, witnessed, heard in silence. Architecture invites to meet in the center in a shared field of presence, and at the same time to step away into intimacy — a private space where grief can unfold, where something deeply personal can be lived through.

NōME is both a name and a practice. This name translates as “no me”. The ego is left at the entrance. What this temple offers, unity, purity, love, becomes possible only when the self stops defending itself. The name carries the philosophy inside it. You understand the temple before you walk through the door.
The sphere is the purest geometric form, carrying the energy of safety and fertility. It holds everyone who enters inside the same shape. The dome shell is built from a lightweight steel or timber structural armature. The entire surface is covered in overlapping white-painted wooden petal shingles, each approximately 40-50cm wide, layered in rows following the curvature of the dome from base to crown.

Night exterior
The temple is the heart of Burning Man. A place for connection and unity, there is no disconnection here. Every person is vulnerable and it is okay to share pain and be heard in silence. A place to connect with each other and at the same time hold a private space for grief.
The exterior of the temple will be illuminated at night, with lighting integrated into the dome structure to highlight the texture of the petal shingles. We will work with a lighting designer to create a composition that honors the sacred nature of the space and makes the temple visible and inviting across the playa.

Night interior
At night the interior transforms into a warm, softened space through lighting designed to evoke the color and quality of late sunlight — amber and golden tones that invite stillness and rest. The white surfaces of the dome, walls, and paper petals become a canvas: because the entire interior is white, it can be completely transformed through light. We envision collaborating with a lighting artist or visual artist to project moving imagery, sacred geometry, or abstract compositions onto the walls and ceiling, turning the temple into a living artwork after dark while preserving the meditative quality of the space.
